Vonal KSZ is one one the rare breed of dance artists who prove they can transfer studio work into the live arena with ease having played at the world renowned Megadog shows, supported Aphex Twin, headlined at the Music in the Sun festival and been summoned to play at Carl Cox's legendary aftershow bashes.
Vonal vibes a doctor's tonic
For some reason, when punk rock bands first started out they all chose to play the same novelty number - the theme to the Batman TV show. It's hard to imagine old stony face Paul Weller doing that now but he did it with the Jam
Then, when one-man techno/house bands came along it was the turn of the Dr. Who music.
Sheffielder Andy Brooks, better known these days as Vonal KSZ, has adopted it as his own theme tune. He even put it out on record, on the local Liquid label, with four different versions - The Davros Stavros Kebab Mix, Tom Baker Mix, K9's Winalot Prime Mix and Vulture Squadron's Mad Doctor Remix.
It is a mad melange of screeching and squelching synth lines, big beats, bleeps and industrial clanks, with a vague hint of Dr. Who in there somewhere. Martin Lilleker, Sheffield Telegraph, October 30th, 1998
