The name Blammo! may have had it's chips but the fivesome that bore the monicker have re-emerged as Speedy and claim to have written a whole bunch of new songs which "after ten pints you will still remember in the morning ".

They now claim to have lost the cheesiness, particularly in the keyboard department, that characterised Blammo!s sound and are now lyrically clever-funny, even ironic, rather than daft-funny. So no more songs about magic pencils, Sharon Wilson or even sofas.

The new "tip top" songs will be unveiled when Speedy headline at the Spud Club on Sunday. "Quite simply we want a new record deal," says Bronwen. "And we thought that the name Blammo! had ran it's course, it was time to move on, and it also coincided with a change in our sound".

"Anyway we had got a bit of a reputation for scrapping. I think I kicked the drummer from The Seaside once. But we've stopped fighting now, apart from amongst ourselves".

"We're still good fun though, we jump around a lot" Martin Lilleker, Sheffield Telegraph 01/04/1994
