Last time the Rainsaints played in Sheffield they found themselves topping the bill at the University's Irish Night when headliners Something Happens pulled out. The fact that they managed to not only fill the place but more than 100 were turned away proves something - either they are very popular or there was nothing else happening that night. Most likely the former seeing as The Rainsaints are a local band who rarely play on home territory and appeal to a pretty wide cross section of people...
The band have just released their debut album The Winning Boys Magic. It illustrates what a fine band they are, mixing country, folk-rock and world music influences with wordy stories which usually involve some mention of alcohol.... Martin Lilleker , Sheffield Telegraph, March 8, 1991
