Sheffield Leadmill
Less likely to win an award for her marbles collection than David Icke, Jane Bromley - A C Temple's 'chanteuse' - hurls herself shamelessly into 'Girlseye' looking like Bart Simson's sister and sounding like Siouxie Sioux.
Playing at the Leadmill after a brief tour of Ireland, Sheffield's longest running band just-about -to make-it are dependably exhilarating, Jane's flower stained legs and distressed coiffure dominating the stage as she challenges the laws of nature with an unceasing display of perilous dance moves.
'Silver Swimmer', from the new LP, is typical of the new improved Temple. A classic pop melody, locked away behind an intimidating wall of abrasive guitar noise, it manages to sneak out for the chorus before it is dragged screaming back indoors again. Like the Mary Chain, A C Temple keep the best tunes hidden just below the surface, and tonight that surface was deliciously thin. Jonny Thatcher, NME
